A total of 360,000 Britons were tracked for around 11 years and those who said they usually nodded off were 12 and 24 percent more likely to develop high blood pressure or have a stroke, respectively.
The findings of the Chinese team – part of an ongoing UK Biobank study – reflected a recent US study which found poor sleep is associated with poorer health.
Not getting seven to eight hours sleep at night has been linked to other illnesses, including diabetes and cancer. The study is in Hypertension.
