Covid variant symptoms: What are the different symptoms of each coronavirus variant?
Germany: Coronavirus deaths surpass 40,000 says Wieler
Coronavirus has infected millions around the world and as health services implement measures to control the spread of the virus, new mutations are being detected. These new variants of the novel coronavirus have thus far been detected in several countries and territories and are proven to be more infectious and easily transmissible than the original strain. But does each strain have different symptoms?
Coronavirus has infected more than 3.2 million people in the UK.
The main symptoms of the virus are a high temperature, a new and continuous cough and/or a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste.
Most people have at least one of these symptoms.
However, around one-third of people do not experience any symptoms at all.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson revealed the UK is “taking steps” to keep out cases of the coronavirus variant discovered in Brazil.
Speaking at the Liaison Committee, Mr Johnson said he was “concerned” about the new variant.
He said: “I think it’s fair to say that there are lots of questions we still have.
“We already have tough measures… to protect this country from new infections coming in from abroad.
“We are taking steps to do that in respect of the Brazilian variant.”
Does each Covid variant have different symptoms?
The UK Covid variant
A highly infectious mutation of the novel coronavirus was detected in Kent last month.
The variant VOC 202012/01 has now been found in 50 countries, territories and areas.
Test results showed the age and sex distribution of the UK-identified variant were similar to that of other circulating variants.
However, it has been found to be upwards of 70 percent more transmissible.
The variant in the UK is believed to be the reason behind the surge in infections at the end of last year.

South Africa variant
A new variant of coronavirus is circulating rapidly around South Africa.
All viruses mutate and the strain in South Africa is called 501.V2.
The South African variant carries a mutation called E484K, among others, and is different from another recently discovered variant that scientists have been studying in the UK.
The South African variant appears to be more contagious than the original strain of the virus, but it does not appear to have any other differing symptoms.
There is no evidence to suggest the South Africa variant is any more dangerous than the original strain.
Brazil variant
The Brazil variant was detected in four people who had travelled from Brazil’s Amazonas state to Tokyo earlier this month.
Japan’s National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) said the new variant belongs to the B.1.1.248 lineage of the coronavirus and has 12 mutations including N501Y and E484K, in its spike protein.
Little is known about the Brazil Covid variant which is causing concern.
Mr Johnson said the Government is taking steps to ensure the Brazil variant does not enter the country.
Ministers are now poised to announce a travel ban from Brazil and several other countries in South America.
Kenya variant
A new variant of coronavirus has now been detected in Kenya according to research from the state-linked Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri).
The variant was detected in the south-eastern region of the country after a study was undertaken from June to October.
Dr Charles Agoti, a Kemri researcher and principal member of a team of investigators reported the vast majority of mutations are often insignificant and have little impact.
Kenya’s cases of Covid-19 have been on a lower trajectory, with less than 100 cases reported over the last week.
