Expert warns against using a towel to dry your face – health risks
Between the extensive choice of skincare products and the latest advancements in aesthetic dermatology, it’s hard to navigate the world of skin health and pinpoint what really works.
With the boom in popularity of TikTok, anyone can go online and share the latest tip they swear by.
While identifying what’s a must for your skincare regime can be difficult with so much information out there, there is one thing you should absolutely never do, according to Fatma Gunduz, an aesthetic therapist from Skin and Sanctuary.
The golden rule is to never use a towel to dry your face.
Rubbing a towel against your face could expose it to some pretty nasty infections.

The reason why you shouldn’t use towels for your face comes down to them being breeding grounds as they are naturally absorbent.
Gunduz told the Sun that towels could be home to bugs like E.coli, which can sometimes cause uncomfortable stomach problems.
The expert said: “These bugs can transfer to your skin and potentially cause breakouts or infections.”

Worryingly, the actual texture of towels could also spell bad news for your skin.
When you rub a rough towel on your face, you could be damaging your skin.
Gunduz said: “Rubbing vigorously with one of those could even cause micro-tears in the skin and so long-term damage.”
Furthermore, the absorbent nature of a towel could leave your skin stripped of natural oils, leading to dryness.
The expert suggested “patting your face dry with a clean, soft towel” if you want to stick to drying your face this way.
However, the best option is to let your face dry naturally, she added.
