Mean Girls is About to Turn 20 Years Old & Amy Poehler Isn't the Only 'Cool Mom' Anymore
It’s been 19 years (NINETEEN! YEARS!) since Mean Girls debuted, and yes, you really are that old. *Sigh* Amanda Seyfried made an appearance on Good Morning America on Tuesday and talked about her castmates from the iconic movie.
Seyfried was told it’s been 20 years since she starred as one of “The Plastics” (aka the clique of mean girls) in the movie, but it’s actually only been 19 years since it was released in April 2004. Which kind of sort of maybe makes us feel better. Because at least we’re not that old. But wow, they really missed an opportunity not releasing it on October 3 which has been dubbed “Mean Girls Day.” In the cult classic, on October 3, love interest Aaron Samuels asked Lohan what day it is. “It’s October 3,” she said.
Anyhoo! A lot has happened in 19 years and 1 month. “We’re all moms,” Seyfried said in shock before talking about her co-star Lindsay Lohan’s pregnancy.
And it’s true! Seyfried (who played Karen Smith) and Rachel McAdams (who played Regina George) each have a son and a daughter. Lacey Chabert (aka Gretchen Weiners) has a daughter, and Lizzy Caplan (Janis Ian) has one son. And now Lindsay Lohan — who played the lead role of Cady Heron — is pregnant. So step aside, Amy Poehler, because there’s a new crew of “cool moms” coming through.
On Wednesdays We Wear Maternity Clothes
Yup, ICYMI: Lindsay Lohan is pregnant! Seyfried revealed that she recently interviewed the actor when she was newly pregnant and asked if she wanted to have kids one day, not knowing a bun was already in the oven. But now, Seyfried said the star of The Parent Trap “seems ready to pop.”
“I’m really happy,” Seyfried said. “It’s nice and we get to be in a new part of our lives and we really appreciate that movie.”
Lindsay Lohan
Lohan may look like she is “about to pop,” and she also looks absolutely stunning. The photos of her showing off her bump at her baby shower left us speechless.
“So grateful for all of the wonderful people in my life! ❤️?,” she captioned her post which then got comments from her The Parent Trap co-stars.
Lisa Ann Walter (who played Chessy) said, “Look at this gorgeous mama. So much love to you & your family ❤️,” while Elaine Hendrix (aka Meredith Blake) wrote, “♥️??♥️ So happy for you Lindsay! ♥️??♥️.”
Rachel McAdams
Don’t worry, Rachel McAdams is not teaching her kids how to become one of “The Plastics.” And while the star of The Notebook is most definitely a cool mom, it sounds like she is a regular mom too. We love the duality!
In an interview with Bustle, McAdams said she has a quiet life in the South with her family of four and two terrier mix dogs. Her favorite thing is to simply ride around town with one of her kids strapped to her bike.
“All my bikes have baby seats,” she said.
Amanda Seyfried
Seyfried recently shared that she makes it a point to teach her kids that they can “say anything they want with no judgment” from her and her husband. During an interview with Today, the Mama Mia star shared that she struggled with OCD and anxiety as a kid.
“I didn’t know that I could [talk about it],” she said. “I just want my kids to know that they can come to me no matter what,” Seyfried shared. “Embarrassed, fearful, anxious, excited, whatever they’re feeling, if they let it out a little bit, it’s liberating.”
