Meet Your New Bachelor For 2021

In all honesty, it’s hard to believe The Bachelor is returning for another season. While the prospect of seeing two people fall on love onscreen is one anyone would gladly tune in to see, the success rate of those finding love on the show is far from promising. Sure, some lucky couples have not only stayed together but become engaged and even given birth to Bachelor offspring, but most split sooner than the cameraman can pack away the tripod and turn off the flash. And what follows is rarely a love story so much as it is one of cryptic Instagram posts, story rants, before the inevitable tell-all radio interview that sees them cry into the microphone as they detail the demise of this ill-fated relationship.

Still, the show seems to return nearly every year, even though last year’s was far from the ordinary format. Instead, we had to watch awkward virtual dates and Zoom breakups, it wasn’t exactly riveting TV but for some reason, an audience remained loyal. Now, the 2021 Bachelor has been revealed: ladies, meet Jimmy Nicholson.

The 31-year-old airline pilot is a “self-confessed romantic,” according to the official announcement, and is a “passionate go-getter who is ready to find his happily ever after.”

In an interview with Network 10, Jimmy said: “I am a big believer in embracing any opportunity that presents itself, especially if it has the potential to change your life for the better.”

Channel 10’s Head of Programming, Daniel Monaghan, told TV Tonight, “We’re really happy with who has signed on to The Bachelor,” adding that the suitor for the upcoming ninth season will fit Australia’s “most eligible bachelor mould.”

“Which is why it’s such a good phrase! Maybe you can be more desirable, for whatever reason,” he said, alluding to the fact that while the show has given us buff men in the past, Jimmy’s career and background isn’t all that conventional. It’s welcome news, particularly for fans who wanted someone that wasn’t a familiar TV face or picked from a past contestant pool.

“Australia will be very happy with our gentleman,” said Monaghan, adding “[You don’t know him yet] but you will. I think he’s a fantastic get for the franchise.”
