In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Zack George, the top-ranked CrossFit athlete in the United Kingdom, invited professional powerlifter and model Paul Olima to try his first-ever CrossFit workout. “He’s not normally a fitness guy,” says George. “He’s strong; he was back squatting 205 kgs when he came in, so it’s going to be fun.”

George starts off by coaching Olima through his first attempt at a snatch on the barbell. Despite being a newcomer, the lifter is immediately able to snatch 70 kgs, and after a couple of rounds he is ready to up the weight and attempt 100 kgs. “Most CrossFit athletes will train for years to be able to get a 100 kilo snatch,” says George. “Paul’s first time ever snatching, side effects generic synthroid and he’s going to do it.”

Olima isn’t quite able to complete the muscle snatch, and this is the first moment that he really begins to suspect that working out with George is going to be harder than it looks. “Usually I do 3 deadlifts, rest for like 5 minutes, and then I do deadlifts again, so it’s a bit different!” He says. “It’s a shock to the body.”

After the snatches, George outlines the 2 WODs they’ll be doing: 4 burpees over dumbbell, 4 bar muscleups, 40 double-unders, performed for 10 rounds. Then after a short rest, they take on the second WOD: a 20 cal sprint on the assault bike and 20 toes-to-bar, for 6 rounds.

George congratulates Olima on how well he did in his first ever CrossFit workout, but Olima laughs. “He’s being nice, mate,” he says to the camera. “I nearly died!”
