Style Against Cancer, backed by Claudia Winkleman, is encouraging hairdressers to host fundraising events in their salons, barbershops, are wherever they chose to work.


Celebs have been posting their fresh trims on Instagram with the hashtag #chopchop. Coleen Rooney said she was ‘happy’ to show her support, and Girls Aloud’s Kimberley Walsh wrote: ‘So happy to support the brilliant Style Against Cancer campaign.’

TV presenter Alex Jones wrote: ‘I donated the cost of a cut and blow dry thanks to salons like this being so generous.’

Kim Kardashian’s famous stylist, Chris Appleton, is also championing Style Against Cancer and said: ‘As a stylist, we share so many moments with our clients in their chairs and many of those can be the life-changing news of a diagnosis, the decision to change their style before hair loss and treatment, or sharing stories of cancer journeys. I’m proud to be involved in this campaign.’

George Northwood is another stylist to the stars, responsible for the locks of Alexa Chung and Rose Huntington-Whiteley, backing Style Against Cancer. He said: ‘I’m thrilled to support this new initiative from Children with Cancer UK as we all know the devastating impact this disease has on everyone. Stylists and their clients can enjoy a day of fun whilst raising crucial awareness.’


Taking place from Monday, October 2 to Friday, October 6, hairdressers can register their salon online, and get fundraising. They’ll be provided with downloadable resources to let everyone know about their fundraising, and encourage clients to donate – whether that be adding a few extra pounds onto their haircut payment, via raffles and bake sales, or simply donating to the salon’s JustGiving page.

Jo Elvin, CEO at Children with Cancer UK said: ‘Hairdressers of Britain are with us through it all.

‘From those big life moments to the polite summer holiday chat, the conversations that happen in their chairs reaches every community. This is why we are asking salons and barbershops to support Style Against Cancer and help our mission of a world where every child survives cancer.’

This money will go towards funding research into the causes of childhood cancers and develop kinder, better treatments.

Every day in the UK, 10 families will receive a childhood cancer diagnosis.
