Bradley Walsh health: ‘I was a ticking time bomb’ – star’s major health risk
Bradley Walsh, 60, presents the gripping game show, The Chase, which is one of the most popular programmes on TV, thanks in part to his loveable and charismatic ways. The star revealed he is at high risk of suffering with heart disease due to his father’s heart-breaking outcome.

Bradley received the daunting news from medical professionals and made the wise decision to quit drinking to help reduce his risk.
In the process, the Chase star has lost 10lbs and has completely overhauled his lifestyle.
Bradley discussed his new lease on a healthier life after doctors told him he was at high risk of death from heart disease if he didn’t change his ways.
For Bradley, the warning cut too close to home as he lost his dad, Daniel, due to heart disease when he was 59 years old.
“I was a time bomb,” Bradley had said of his previous way of living to the Sun on Sunday.
“I produce too much cholesterol. It’s a silent killer.
“My heart guy said, ‘Look, Brad, you need to get fit.’
“I had it in the back of my mind that I just had to get past my dad’s age. So, turning 60 was a bit of a milestone.”

Many cardiac disorders can be inherited, including arrhythmias, congenital heart disease, cardiomyopathy and high blood cholesterol said the University of Ottawa.
It continued: “Coronary artery disease leading to heart attack, stroke, and heart failure can run in families, indicating inherited genetic risk factors.
“Genetics can influence the risk for heart disease in many ways.
“Genes control every aspect of the cardiovascular system, from the strength of the blood vessels to the way cells in the heart communicate.”

“I was 33 when he passed away. I’d just done the Royal Variety Show performance which helped launch my career, but my dad died from heart failure two weeks after that and never got to see it.
“Once you know it’s hereditary, you start having regular tests.
“Of course, it’s a concern.
“Every couple of years I go and have a full medical at the Loughton Cardiac Clinic.”
What are the symptoms of heart disease?
Heart disease signs and symptoms depend greatly on what type of heart disease a person may have.
Cardiovascular disease symptoms may be different for men and women as men are more likely to suffer with chest pain as opposed to women who will experience nausea or shortness of breath.
Other symptoms to look out for include:
- Pain, numbness, weakness or coldness in the legs or arms
- Pain in the neck, jaw, throat or back
- Vomiting
If you experience any of these symptoms, it’s important to seek medical help immediately.
Living a healthy life which includes eating a balanced diet, exercising and avoiding drinking and smoking will significantly reduce your risk of developing heart disease.
