Cases are continuing to rise in the UK, and the government has urged the public to stay at home, to avoid becoming infected or spreading the virus further.
People have been advised to remain indoors, as almost 130,000 UK individuals have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Making a few lifestyle and diet changes is one of the best ways to prevent becoming infected with coronavirus.
You could also lower your risk of infection by regularly taking supplements, researchers have revealed.
Vitamin C and vitamin D supplements could help your immune system to fight off the coronavirus, according to scientists from Oregon State University.
Both vitamins play a crucial role in protecting the body against infections.
Without enough vitamin C and D, the body’s resistance to infections can become destroyed, they said.
The researchers urged the government to make it clear to the public in their public service announcements, that adding supplements to your diet could help to protect against the virus.

“There’s a wealth of data that shows the role that good nutrition plays in supporting the immune system,” said researcher Adrian Gombart.
“The roles that vitamins C and D play in immunity are particularly well known.
“Vitamin C has roles in several aspects of immunity, including the growth and function of immune cells and antibody production.
Vitamin D receptors on immune cells also affect their function. This means that vitamin D profoundly influences your response to infections.”

The public simply aren’t eating enough of these nutrients, which could destroy their resistance to infections, he added.
“Consequently, we will see an increase in disease and all of the extra burdens that go along with that increase.”
While the public have been urged to regularly wash their hands, and to self-isolate if they have coronavirus symptoms, it’s also important that they take vitamin C and D supplements, said Gombart.
“The present situation with COVID-19 and the number of people dying from other respiratory infections make it clear that we are not doing enough,” he said. “We strongly encourage public health officials to include nutritional strategies in their arsenal.”

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 infection include developing a high fever and a dry cough.
Patients have also reported fatigue, headaches, runny noses, and aches and pains.
If you think you may have coronavirus, you should self-isolate for at least 14 days.
The public have been told that they should only be leaving their home for work where absolutely necessary, to go food or medicine shopping, or for one hour of exercise.
