Brown staining on your teeth affects most people at some point in their lifetime, but almost everyone would prefer to have sparkly white teeth. What can you do to get rid of the brown stains at home?
Tooth staining comes in a variety of different spectrums, ranging from mild yellow staining too deep, dark brown.
Some brown spots may look like widespread patches, while others can appear as lines.
Staining on the outside of the tooth affects the enamel – the hard outer layer of the teeth.
Some at-home treatments may help to resolve the problem, although you might also have to visit your dentist.

Home whitening treatments try to counteract the surface stains, with varying levels of success.
These treatments can include whitening toothpastes, bleaching kits, and whitening strips.
But not all discolouration will be removed by using these treatments, so it’s a good idea to speak to a dentist first.
You should also avoid overusing them, because they can gradually wear away the tooth enamel.

The best way to get rid of your brown stains is to regularly visit your dentist and hygienist, according to London Hygienist, Anna Middleton.
Professional stain removal is far more effective than home treatments, she said.
Alternatively, teeth whitening can be completed at home using whitening systems.
The treatment gradually brightens your teeth over the course of a two-week period.
“Visit the dentist at least once a year and the hygienist a minimum of twice a year to keep your smile as gleaming as possible. It’ll pay off,” Middleton wrote on her website.
“Professional stain removal offers more substantial results in a short period.
“If you still want to improve the colour of your teeth, you can opt for teeth whitening. Options include in-surgery treatments that take approximately an hour, or home whitening systems that gradually brighten your teeth over the course of two weeks.
“Home whitening is a great investment because you can keep your custom-made trays and ‘top-up’ your whitening a few times a year with professionally formulated gels.”
Brown spots on teeth have a number of different causes, ranging from certain foods to medication.
Coffee, red wine, blueberries, blackberries, pomegranates and cola have all be claimed to cause tooth staining.
On rarer occasions, brown strains could also be a warning sign of coeliac disease.
But generally, as people get older, their teeth can become darker, owing to a cumulative effect of surface staining.
