What Happened When This Guy Did Pullups For 1 Hour Wearing a 30-Pound Weighted Vest
Brandon William is always looking for new challenges to test his fitness. He’s previously trained like a gymnast, a bodybuilder, tried the FBI Agent Fitness Test, and even the U.S. Army Fitness Challenge after only eating military rations. And in his latest YouTube video, William is putting his upper body strength to the ultimate test by seeing how many pullups he can do in 1 hour while wearing a 30-pound weighted vest.
“I think I can get around 200,” says William.
Sticking with proper form, William shares that in order for a rep to count, he has to be fully extended at the bottom for a full range of motion. And when it comes to pulling up over the bar, his chin has to go over the bar.
He heads over to a local calisthenics park to do the challenge. Within the first 20 seconds, he knocks out 10 reps.
“Oh man, this thing is heavy,” he says.
He presses on, and hits 35 reps in about 7 minutes. He takes off the vest to take a break, then starts back up again. And 50 reps in, he takes another break with about 49 minutes to go. He starts up again (this time with his headphones in for some music motivation), and starts to get into a rhythm of 3 reps at a time. He hits 76 reps with 39:54 to go.
“My hands are hurting pretty badly right now. I don’t have any gloves,” he says as he shows off his blisters.
He hits the pullup bar for another set, and he hits 100 reps with 32:50 left. So he is ahead of his pace to hit 200 reps. At 103 reps, he takes another break.
“I got a massive pump right now!” he says.
Even though his goal is 200, he notes that he “definitely is getting 150”. He hits the bar and keeps going, and decides to try to use a t-shirt to give his hands some protection. But it fails and only makes it “more slippery”.
With 20 minutes to go, he’s at 122 reps, and says he has to slow down because he’s feeling “some weirdness” in his back and doesn’t want to get injured.
“Not gonna push it too hard,” he says. “The vest is absolutely destroying my upper body, my back and my biceps.”
In the final 12 minutes, he is down to doing just one rep at a time. With 7 minutes to go, he hits 150 reps. With 3 minutes to go, he is maxxing it out…and he finishes with 165 reps.
“My hands are absolutely done,” says William.
