High cholesterol is the name given to having too much of a fatty substance in your blood.   • Shooting pain in the arms, neck, jaw, back, or abdomen
  • Breathing difficulties
  • Weakness, light-headedness, or dizziness
  • Nausea or vomiting

The NHS said: “Most chest pain isn’t a sign of anything serious, but you should get medical advice just in case.

“See a GP if you have chest pain that comes and goes.

“If you have chest pain goes away quickly but you’re still worried your doctor will be able to determine the cause.

“It’s important to get medical advice to make sure it’s nothing serious.”

Pain in legs

Doctors call it claudication, and the pain that it brings go away as soon as you take a break from what you are doing.

Some people with leg pain due to high cholesterol report a feeling of heaviness, tiredness or burning in one or both legs.

The pain experienced can be in one or both legs.

High cholesterol does not cause any major symptoms, so it is very hard to tell if you have it.

Your GP might suggest having a test if they fear your cholesterol levels could be high.

If you are overweight, have diabetes, are over 40 or if you have a family history of high cholesterol or heart problems then your GP will probably recommend that you get tested to be on the safe side.

The only way you can know for certain if you have high levels of cholesterol is from a blood test.
