As the UK continues to try and cope with the heatwave, a lot of us may be upping our water intake.
But, while adults and older children are told it's important to consume a lot of water, experts are urging parents of children under the age of six months to never give them water.
Even if it gets completely scorching, babies under six months who are breastfed shouldn't drink water under any circumstances, as a tiny drop could be fatal.
This is because it can lead to overloading their tiny bellies and prevent them from getting their required nutrients in breast milk.
It can also lead babies to experience hyponatremia and water intoxication, which are both considered potentially fatal.
According to the NHS, formula-fed babies may benefit from some extra water in hot weather.
The website states: "For babies under 6 months, you should not use water straight from the mains tap in the kitchen as it is not sterile.
"You will need to boil the tap water first and then let it cool down.
"Water for babies over 6 months doesn't need to be boiled."
Why is water bad for babies?
Babies don't need water.
Up until the age of six months, quebec monde ecole breastfed children should never be given water, whereas formula-fed babies can be given water in small amounts if the weather is warm.
According to Katie Zeratsky, a dietitian at the Mayo Clinic, even though children older than six months can have a sip of water now and again, she said it's not really that important as they can survive on a water-free diet until they're a year old.
She told Buzzfeed: "They get all of their fluid needs through human milk or infant formula. Even on a hot day they can get all of their hydration needs through human milk or formula."
Why is it harmful?
All the nutrients a baby requires are found in breastmilk, and it's essential that they get all they need to be able to grow.
Due to this you should only ever provide your baby with milk, as water will have an effect on their ability to absorb the proteins, vitamins and all the good stuff that milk offers the little ones.
Pharmacist Abbas Kanani told Yahoo UK: "Their stomachs are so tiny and can fill up easily with water, making it difficult for them to get the nourishment they require.
"Giving water to an infant can affect the baby’s ability to receive adequate nourishment."
What will happen if a baby consumes water?
If a baby under the age of six months consumes water it can lead to water intoxication.
Katie added: "Water intoxication is where you consume too much water in a short period of time and your blood level of sodium drops… making a tragic situation."
This can result in the kidneys being overloaded, which Katie said can lead to a potential imbalance in the levels of electrolytes such as sodium.
Meanwhile Abbas said that the dip in sodium is a result of too much water being fed into the body, which is known as hyponatraemia
Later down the line this could result in swelling of the brain, seizures and in some situations it can even be fatal.
