Supplements have been used for many years to help with a variety of health ailments. Some have been proven to be far more effective than others with green tea supplements showing impressive results for weight loss backed up by studies.

Green tea is rich in catechins and caffeine.

Both of these chemicals have been shown to make the body more effective at burning calories, which may lead to weight loss.

The two chemicals have been shown to assist in weight loss by regulating the hormones that can enhance thermogenesis.

Thermogenesis is the process by which your body burns calories to digest food and produce heat.

Green tea has been shown to boost this process by making your body more effective at burning calories, which can lead to weight loss.

Green tea extract is its concentrated form, with just one capsule containing the same amount of active ingredients as an average cup of green tea.

Similar to green tea, green tea extract is a great source of antioxidants.

These have been credited with a range of health benefits — from promoting heart, liver, and brain health to improving your skin and even reducing the risk of cancer.

What’s more, many studies have looked at the ability of green tea extract to aid weight loss.

In fact, many weight loss products list it as a key ingredient.

In a study published in the Journal of Nutrition, green tea catechin consumption to help with abdominal fat loss in overweight and obese adults was investigated.

The study involved 107 participants who were randomly assigned to receive a beverage containing catechins with caffeine or a control beverage.

Participants were asked to maintain constant energy intake and engage in 180 minutes of moderate exercise per week.

The results showed a trend toward greater loss of body weight in the catechin group compared with the control group.

Percentage changes in fat moss did not differ between the catechin and control group.

However, percentage changes in total abdominal fat area, subcutaneous abdominal fat area and fasting serum triglycerides were greater in the catechin group.

The study concluded that green tea catechin consumption enhances exercise-induced changes in abdominal fat.

Researchers from the Department of Chemical Biology, at the State University of New Jersey, also highlighted green tea supplements for aiding in weight loss.

They found that EGCG can help inhibit an enzyme from breaking down the hormone norepinephrine – a fat-burning hormone.

When the enzyme is stopped from breaking down norepinephrine, the amount of norepinephrine increases thereby promoting fat breakdown and weight loss.

The best way to lose weight, on top of taking green tea supplements, is to make some small diet or lifestyle changes, said the NHS.

It’s important to eat regular meals – including breakfast. It’s one of the easiest ways to slash the pounds, it added.

Drink plenty of water and be sure to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day.

Fibre-rich foods help you to feel fuller for longer, which stops you from overeating.

Exercise is equally as important as a healthy diet. Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity activity every week.
