Graeme Anderson, 36, has described his mum’s first symptoms before her untimely death from COVID-19.

Speaking to Liverpool Echo, he explained his mum, June, had self-isolated for two weeks after a neighbour by her home tested positive for the disease.

But she did not develop symptoms during that time.

After she returned to work she began to feel “generally unwell” and developed a cough, so went back into isolation.

Graeme said: “Over the course of four or five days her breathing got worse, so we told her to ring an ambulance, and in the end my dad took her to hospital himself.

“She was there for four or five days, and she had her phone with her and was sending messages constantly. But she deteriorated and they put her in the ICU.

“The hospital were brilliant, I could not say a bad word about them. Nothing was too much for them.

“I was quite positive all the way through but my dad was really worried from the moment she was taken to hospital.”

The devastating news came that nothing more could be done for June, and the family had to say their goodbyes over a live video call.

What are the symptoms of coronavirus to look out for?

The NHS lists the main symptoms of coronavirus as:

  • A high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature)
  • A new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)

But the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has now listed more symptoms to look out for.
