When a person does not have enough water in their body, the body cannot properly metabolise fat or carbohydrates.

The vital process of metabolising fat is known medically as lipolysis.

When water molecules interact with triglycerides glycerol and fatty acids are created; this is known as hydrolysis and fat burning takes place.

This is why water is so integral for helping one to lose visceral fat as drinking enough water burns fat from food and drink, as well as stored fat.

Many studies support the theory that drinking water is beneficial for weight loss said Medical News Today.

The health site continued: “Hydration is key for many factors that play a role in weight loss, including digestion and muscle function.

“Researchers are still unsure why drinking more water helps a person to lose weight, but many studies show some positive correlation between increased water consumption and weight loss.”

One of the main benefits waters has on losing belly fat is that it works as an appetite suppressant.

When a person does not feel hungry, they will most likely consume less calories.

When the stomach senses it is full, it sends signals to the brain to stop eating.

Water also takes up space in the stomach, leading to the feeling of fullness and reducing hunger.

Often, a person will mistake their feelings of hunger for dehydration therefore continually drinking water throughout the day will mean eating less.

In a study with The US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health, cardiovascular and metabolic response to tap water ingestion was investigated.

The study involved 12 people who drank 500 mL of cold and room temperature water and found they experienced an increase in energy expenditure.

The participants burned two and three percent more calories than usual in the 90 minutes after drinking the water.

Water increased the body’s resting energy expenditure meaning the number of calories burnt while resting increased.
